Dimetric Projection is a form of Axonometric Projection in which two of three axes are equally foreshortened. The quintessential shape of a Dimetric tile is a *diamond*.

In video game development, this is often mistakenly referred to Isometric Projection. However, the primary difference between Dimetric Projection and Isometric Projection is that the foreshortening of one is equal (hence “iso”) and the other has two different foreshortenings (hence “di”). A third form of projection, Trimetric Projection, has a different foreshortening for all three axes (hence “tri”).
